<p><strong><span lang="EN-US">In summer 2018,</span></strong><span class="apple-converted-space"><span lang="EN-US"> </span></span><b><span lang="EN-US">Fish in Focus</span></b><span class="apple-converted-space"><span lang="EN-US"> </span></span><span lang="EN-US">started their work in Swedish lakes, rivers, marshlands and coastlines, with the goal is to capture the mysterious aquatic life on film. The work has already resulted in numerous educational films, event and talks. And more is to come. The documentation of life in Swedish waters is continuing. Dedicated photographers, film makers and experts, are spending whole seasons in the field to reveal interesting happenings.<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span></span></p> <p><strong><span lang="EN-US">The project</span></strong><span class="apple-converted-space"><span lang="EN-US"> </span></span><span lang="EN-US">aims to raise awareness of the factors behind declining fish stocks – both in Scandinavia and worldwide. Over-fishing, hydro power, industrial waste, plastic, overfertilization, climate change, habitat loss and poaching are just some of the threats facing these unique habitats.<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span></span></p> <p><strong><span lang="EN-US">By presenting beautiful</span></strong><span lang="EN-US">, compelling imagery of our aquatic ecosystems, it is more likely that people in general, as well as decision makers, will engage in preserving these most precious of resources. <p>The fund aims to raise USD 5,000,000 to support women scientists in sharing research to drive wider public action while fostering global connection and knowledge-sharing.</p> <p>Too often, women climate scientists are confined to academic circles, limiting the reach of their research and leadership. This philanthropic fund provides flexible support to help them connect with policymakers, educators, the media, and the broader public. By sharing their data, insights, and stories more widely, these scientists can influence urgent action and help shift how climate change is understood and addressed. The fund also fosters connection among women researchers worldwide, promoting knowledge exchange and collective visibility.</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">Thiamine, an essential vitamin in our cells, responsible for basic metabolic functions in all biological cells. Deficiency results in disturbance of metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and protein, the most basic compounds. As a consequence, the secondary effects of thiamine deficiency are devastating, such as a defect immune system against bacteria, fungus and virus, degree of aggression, laboured respiration, worsening sensory functions, reduced growth, and very serious effects on reproduction, including direct mortality.</p> <p style="font-weight: 400;">Thus, thiamine deficiency results in a whole spectrum of serious disorders, some obvious and easy to diagnose, others are more subtle and could be mistaken for other disorders. The list of affected species from different animal classes is getting long and now includes mussels, fish, reptiles, mammals, insects and birds.</p> <p style="font-weight: 400;">The overall goal of the research is now to find the underlying cause of thiamine deficiency, i.e., how and by what it arises in our ecosystems.</p> <p style="font-weight: 400;">Learn more: <a href="https://www.tiaminbrist.se/artiklar-44334259">website</a></p> <p> </p>

<p><strong>The Baltic Sea</strong> is one of the world’s most polluted seas and has a dead zone twice the size of Denmark. Race For The Baltic is a solution and business-oriented non-profit organisation founded by Zennström Philanthropies, whose mission is to improve the health of the Baltic Sea.</p> <p><strong>To achieve the most impact</strong>, they focus their efforts on the predominant issue, namely eutrophication, which causes dead bottoms, algae blooms, fish mortality, and poor water transparency. Race For The Baltic work in collaboration with researchers, governmental institutions, other non-profit organisations, the private sector, and entrepreneurs.</p> <p><strong>Their primary aim</strong> is to ‘bend the curve’ on eutrophication and reach a state where the Baltic Sea starts restoring itself, by 2030.</p> <p>Learn more: <a href="https://www.raceforthebaltic.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a></p>

<p><span data-contrast="auto">A non-profit organization registered in Germany and Kenya, the ZEITZ foundation was founded by Jochen Zeitz in 2008. The Foundation creates and supports inclusive, holistic conservation projects that improve livelihoods, foster intercultural dialogue, and achieve long-term positive impact and sustainability. </span></p> <p><span data-contrast="auto">The ZEITZ foundation’s "4C" philosophy balances Conservation, Community, Culture, and Commerce to benefit land, wildlife, and rural communities.
